Catching Fire

Being the second book in Suzanne Collins Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire is a great read but not as fantastic at the first book. The first part of the book isn't filled with much action and then later I suddenly had a deja vu moment. It seems to follow a very similar pattern to The Hunger Games. There is still a competition of love mixed with adventure. The characters are mostly the same with a few additions that make the novel have a bit of an edge to it. Catching Fire is one of those books that you can't put down till you get to the end but once you are done you are left a little disappointed. I recommend reading the book in hopes that the 3rd one will be better.

The Fortunes of Indigo Skye

What would you do if you suddenly got 2.5 million dollars? Indigo Skye, a 18 year old girl, is faced with this "problem" when a generous customer at the diner she works at decided to give here a very large tip! Deb Caletti does a great job of showing how money can change a person in a way they never imagined. This book at times is a bit slow, but overall has a great message to it. Stay true to your self and to the ones you love. Money changes everyone. Its your job to control yourself and find the perfect balance.

The Lovely Bones

There is no question as to how or why The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold quickly became the #1 Bestseller. Our adventure begins a few moments after Susie Salmon is reaped and murdered by her neighbor. As the book progresses we are given the opportunity to watch with her, as life continues without Susie. As the years pass Susie is stuck in the same place (the in between) and in the same body but as she watches her family and friends grow she herself mentally grows as well. She experiences life through watching her sister and her friends. Everyone reacts differently when a child is killed. Susie watches as her friends and family's grieve and then begin to forget and move on, while her murderer still continues to live and kill other innocent woman. But unlike all her other family members Susie's father never gives up hope of finding her murderer, Susie makes it her mission to help her father find justice. This novel is a great combination of love, fantasy, revenge and hope. The book begins with a lot of horror but has a beautiful ending.

The Hunger Games

Suzanne Collins has made it to the top of my most favorite authors list with her book, The Hunger Games. Taking place in future America this story has everything anyone would ever want in a novel. Filled with enough adventure and action to raise your blood pressure, The Hunger Games is a great book for anyone that is interested in survival, love, friendship, and honor. The story revolves around a young woman named Katneiss Everdeen whose only goal is to keep her family and herself alive. She is a character that risks her life everyday to put food on the table and even chooses to part take in an evil game that might end her life. Living in a city where the leaders make sure that everyone follows their orders, they have created a game that selects 24 teenagers who are randomly chosen each year to be placed in an arena and forces them to fight till only one of them survives. This is bad enough but every move they make is watched by everyone in the country. No pressure huh? But unlike most of the other kids, Katneiss volunteers herself to participate only to save her little sister. Its a large risk to take but once one of them outsmarts the rest and becomes the last one standing they are automatically given all the riches anyone would ever need. Suzanne Collins does a wonderful job bringing the adventures of Katneiss to life in this unforgettable book. I promise that once you begin you will not be able to put the book down till you get to the very end. Every page of this book reveals a surprise that no one could have ever predicted.
